This digital print stands as a symbol of women’s potential and voice. Even though there has been much progress on women’s rights there are still loopholes and grey areas where women are treated unfairly when standing next to men. In my experience it’s easy for men to overlook a woman. Especially when she speaks. More often than not a passionate woman will be referred to with slang such as, crazy, annoying, feisty, or even as a b*** when their opinions are voiced. It seems to be very difficult for some people to accept assertive, serious, insightful, and wise women. To me, this stigma to ignore a woman when she speaks or invalidate and belwittle her comes from the way society views women. Because of my feminine appearance, I am constantly ignored and cast aside when in a group of men. Even when my ideas outshine those of a man’s I am still second in command. How are women supposed to achieve status and validation for their accomplishments if we can't acquire the same validation and acceptance that is handed to men? This piece simply addresses the belittlement of women, from a man-dominated society, and addresses how appearance in a business and professional setting is the only difference between us. The shadow represents all of the great potential women have and could execute if equality fully existed between genders. Behind the figure is a newspaper article featuring the words from Alice Paul, one of the major feminist vocies in the 1920s. This article predicts that men and women will be equal by 2023; and we will have a women president leading the United States. That is in just two years. I believe that we have gotten closer to this goal. Although, there are many more steps this society can take to better see women as equals. The inclination to listen to man first needs to be addressed. The illusion that a woman's appearance means she's less valuable than a man needs to diminish. That's why I have created this piece to address this issue that exists in almost every social encounter I and many women have. I hope making this point will cause others to reflect and change their way of thinking so these sexist biases can be eradicated and we can reach true equality
